“The Challenge to Change”

Passage: John 6:43-59

Bible Text: John 6:43-59 | MEMORY VERSES / EPHESIANS 5:1-2 – NIV
“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Acts 17:11-12 (NLT)
11 And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth. 12 As a result, many Jews believed, as did many of the prominent Greek women and men.

Definition of Disciple: a person who has surrendered his/her will and desires to follow another and carry out their will and desires

I . God is all about change.

“I’ve come to change everything, turn everything right side up—how I long for it to be finished! ”Luke 12:50 (MSG)

. . . As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him and reflect his glory even more.

2 Corinthians 3:18 (NLT)

And I am sure that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus comes back again.

Philippians 1:6 (NLT)

II. The Spiritual Pulse Check: / Where are you now?

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test? 2 Corinthians 13:5 (NIV)

III. Are you further along than you were a year ago?

I had to feed you with milk and not with solid food, because you couldn’t handle anything stronger. And you still aren’t ready…1 Corinthians 3:2 (NLT)

Am I growing in my character?
Am I growing in my gifts?
Am I growing in my relationships?
Am I growing in my understanding of God?

IV. Where do you want to be in a year?

I do not mean that I am already as God wants me to be. I have not yet reached that goal, but I continue trying to reach it and to make it mine. Christ wants me to do that, which is the reason he made me his.  Philippians 3:12 (NCV)

V. The hiddenness of God: change initiates new revelation

Truly you are a God who hides himself, O God and Savior of Israel. Isaiah 45:15 (NIV)

O Lord, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I need you the most? Psalm 10:1 (NLT)

When you look for me, you will find me. When you wholeheartedly seek me, I will let you find me, declares the Lord. Jeremiah 29:13–14a (God’s Word)

Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23 (NIV)
