Scripture Reading: EPHESIANS 1-2

Memory Verse- Colossians 2:9-10 NLT

For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, Who is the head over every ruler and authority –

Sometimes we struggle to find God – we see things like the Coronavirus with it’s sickness and death, we see rioting in the streets, anger, frustration, prejudice  and hatred and we ask-where is God-Why isn’t God stepping in to stop this? Why does so much hate exist in the world?

The answer to all of these questions is the absence of God – I don’t mean that God is not there or does not care, I mean the people have left God out of the equation. They don’t worship and honor God-they don’t spend time getting to know Him through His word-they become so focused on themselves that the idea of serving others does not come into their thoughts and the idea of spending time with other Christians seems boring – To often we want to be God-I mean we want God to do what we want rather than us wanting to do what God wants – Most of the time we never even stop and ask God what He wants us to do.

We leave God out of the process and then we are left to solve all the problems of the world with our limited insight-our lack of knowledge or wisdom – we try to come up with answers that only God has – so we get frustrated – angry – sad – we worry – we live our life in fear. This is not the life God has for us- So, in reading the letter to the people in Ephesus, look at how the Apostle Paul describes God, Jesus and ask yourself do you see Him that way?

What Does Scripture say?

We have been blessed completely in Jesus, Who has adopted us into His Kingdom according to His plan, His pleasure and His will. We have been redeemed through His blood-been forgiven of our sins because God extended His grace toward us [lavished it on us] just because He wanted to and it is just part of His bringing all things together in unity.

When we put our trust and hope in Jesus, we became part of His plan of conforming everything according to His will and purpose. When we believed in Jesus, we were sealed with the deposit of the Holy Spirit and guaranteed an inheritance with Him forever.

Paul’s prayer for those who follow Jesus is first he gives thanks for

them, he asked that God through our belief in Jesus and indwelling of the Holy Spirit that we would be given wisdom and revelation so that we can know God better.

Paul prays that our inner spirit would be enlightened so that we could really understand and experience the full power of God in our lives, that we could understand our position with Jesus in this world and in the world to come [loved, forgiven, adopted, having worth, value and purpose, inner peace, an inheritance]

How Does This Apply to Me?

God is in full control and as we realize that we give up the allusion of control and can fully enjoy Him in our lives without fear-without performing but living.

So why don’t we feel this power?

  1. Our hearts and minds are spiritual dull because we don’t spend enough time with God doing what God wants us to do and we give into sin [sin nature]

  1. We underestimate the presence and power of the enemy, in our world, his influence in our everyday lives [Satan]
  2. We haven’t given enough time, though and as a result submission to Jesus, what He did on the cross and its effect on us today

16So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

1 Peter 2:24

24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
