Message: “WHAT NOW”
Scripture Reading –Matthew 28:16-20/ John 20: 19 – 21:25 / Acts 1:1-14

Memory Verses: / Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be My witnesses,
telling people about me everywhere-in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria and to the ends of the earth”

At the end of the book of Matthew and the book of John, Jesus has risen from the grave and appeared to His followers [on 4 separate occasions], the difference now was that He did not stay with them but left them for periods of time. During these times, the disciples and followers of Jesus had to work out their faith and beliefs, sometimes together, sometimes separately.
Peter who called Jesus the Christ-the One who has the words of life, had denied Him before Jesus’s accusers, had repented and rejoined the other followers, had seen the resurrected Messiah [twice], now was questioning the future, questioning his role and his calling to be “fishers of men”, so he returned to what he knew-fishing, and others joined him.
During one of their fishing outings, as they were returning after a night of not catching anything, they are signaled to by a man on shore asking if they had any fish- when they replied they did not- he told them to cast their nets on the other side of the boat, when they did this, the net was full of fish [this is the second of miraculous catches of fish]. John suggested to Peter that it was Jesus on the shore, Peter jumps in the water and swims in to meet him.
Jesus, already having some fish, prepared breakfast for Peter and his friends, as they sat, ate and talked, Jesus confronts Peter three times
asking Peter if he loved Jesus and all three times Peter responds that he did and all three times, Jesus gave Peter a job to perform –“feed my sheep/lambs”.
The interesting thing about this conversation in the original Greek language is that two separate words are used. The first two times Jesus addresses Peter He ask him if he, Peter “AGAPED” Him, the deepest form of love, and Peter replied that he” PHILOED” him, a brotherly friendship kind of love, and each time Jesus told him to feed His sheep. The third time however Jesus changes the question and ask Peter, do you PHILO me, a brotherly kind of love, and Peter is hurt that he sees that Jesus knows that at this point in life, the best love Peter could offer back to Jesus was a brotherly love, yet Jesus reminded Peter that He knew exactly where he was in his feeling, and right there, he could still be used, feed my sheep.

Jesus is ready to ascend back into heaven, the disciples want to know if He is now going to restore the Kingdom of David back to Israel, kicking the
Romans out and giving them their homeland back to self-rule. Jesus tells them to quit focusing on what is going to happen in the future and to leave the future to God and His timing, but for them, they were to be the
physical representatives of Jesus on earth [His Witnesses,
His Ambassadors]. They were to spread the Good News about Jesus, telling of His forgiveness of sins, of His healing and restoration of their
Spirit and at times the physical healing of their bodies. Their task, their job as followers of Jesus was to reach out beyond themselves, first to each other, then to their families and local communities, expanding to the
Surround communities [even those undesirable ones, even their enemies,] and to every part of the world, so that all could hear of the Good News that is offered in Jesus, both here on earth and into eternity in Heaven.

Jesus is the HEALING POWER, THE RESTORATION TO OUR CREATOR, THE ONE WHO WAS SACRIFICED FOR OUR SINS TO GOD AND THE ONE WHO RESTORES US BACK TO GOD in the way we were designed and created to be. In Jesus, we can overcome our past short comings and failures, we can overcome our things we did wrong and things that others did wrong to us. In Jesus, we can see our beauty and our worth, our value and our purpose. We can know that Jesus both created us and sustains us in this world no matter where we are or what we have done. Finally Jesus is the promise of a better tomorrow with Him in Heaven, no more pain, no more tears, no
More sorrow – IN JESUS IS THE ABUNDANT LIFE

Additional Bible Verses to Review
Psalm 139:13-16
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir..
