Message: “Don’t Send Me Unless You Go With Me”
Scripture Reading: Exodus 33

Memory Verse/ Exodus 33:15-16
15 Then Moses said, “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place. 16 How will anyone know that you look favorably on me—on me and on your people—if you don’t go with us? For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the earth.”

What Does the Scripture Say?

The Lord had given Moses the Ten Commandments while he was up on Mount Sinai, yet while he was gone the people became restless and had Aaron built them a golden calf so that they would have a god that they could see. When the calf was completed the Israelites immersed themselves into a wild celebration that became out of control drunkenness and debauchery. The Lord told Moses what was going on with the people and to go back down the mount and confront them.

When Moses came down the mount, he saw what was happening, he became so enraged with anger that he broke the two stone tablets that God had written on, he melted down the golden calf, ground it up, put the grindings in the water and made the people drink it. Moses also called for those that wanted to follow God to side with him and the Levites were the only ones who came, so Moses ordered to go throughout the camp and kill those who still stood against following God, and 3000 men were killed with the sword.

The situation had been handled, repentance was made by the Israelites, but now it was time for them to move toward the Promised Land and take possession of it. The Lord ordered Moses to start on the journey but He told Moses that He, the Lord would not be going with them that He would instead sent His angel to go before them and clear the way.

This was distressing to Moses-he had set a tent up outside the border of the camp, and it was there that he went to meet with God. Whenever he went out to the tent to meet with God, the Israelites would get up, go to the entrances to their own tents and when Moses went into the tent to meet with God, they would bow down until Moses reappeared. During the time that Moses would be in the tent, the Cloud represented God would come down on the tent. God would meet with Moses personally, one on one like friends do.

Moses spoke with God concerning His new directives to leave for the Promised Land, he ask God not to send him and the children of Israel any place that He was not going with them. Moses understood the need for God to be present with them, to lead and guide them. God responded to Moses by changing His mind and telling Moses that He would go with them.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO ME?

We live in a world where God is always present but we are not always connect to Him. We allow personal desires, distractions and sin in general to get between us and God so it is difficult if not impossible to know what God wants us to do. To break through these barriers that separate our sensing and hearing God we to constantly be seeking after God, repenting of our sins and our times of falling short, and asking God to lead and direct our lives in such a way that we sense His working and go after His plan for our lives

ADDITIONAL BIBLE VERSES TO REVIEW

Hebrews 13:5 ESV /
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Ephesians 2:1-22 ESV /
And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— …
1 Corinthians 3:16 ESV /
Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
Romans 8:38-39 ESV /
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Peter 2:24 ESV /
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Ephesians 3:17 ESV /
So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
2 Corinthians 3:18 ESV /
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Romans 8:14-39 ESV /
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. …
