Message –“CONNECTED TO GOD”
Scripture Reading: JOHN 14, 2 CORINTHIAN 5:7-14,
Memory Verses JOHN 14:15-17
15 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.

What Does the Scriptures Say?

Trust Me! God throughout His word echo’s this same message over and over both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. He knows and understands that we, left to ourselves are weak spiritually and prone to get distracted-so He repeats the message-TRUST ME!

One of the last talks that Jesus has with His disciples before He is crucified starts out with the same message-Don’t let your hearts be troubled-Don’t worry-you say you trust in God so here He is-right in front of you-trust also in Me-I hold both you today and your future in heaven-I must go back to my home and you will be the ones who continue the ministry I started here on earth-you will care the message to the world-THE GOOD NEWS- you will be my mouth piece-my ambassadors-my physical presence on earth.

His disciples are taken back and Thomas says they don’t know the way to go, Philip ask to see God. Jesus responds by asking the question of Philip, after all this time and you still don’t know who I am? I am God- I am connected to the Father, and through Me you will be connected to the Father-in fact – I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE, NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME!

While the disciples are obviously confused about Jesus going away, and yet stilled being connected with them, Jesus explains that although He is leaving in a physical presence, that after He goes He will be sending back His Spirit – His Advocate- to be with them, in fact this is going to be a whole new kind of experience-a Spiritual Presence of God-not just with them but actually in them-indwelling them-a connection directly with Him and God the Father and the disciples-all believers.

This new experience, having the presence of God in them will be there to comfort them, to direct them, to empower them, to remind them of the Words of Jesus, to correct them as needed and to give them direction and power to be Jesus’ representatives on earth. The most important part of this new experience is that the Holy Spirit will never leave them-He will be with them wherever they go.

Jesus reminds them that they have been changed into a NEW CREATION-
They have been given power to overcome their human-ness, their fears, their worries, their thoughts about what the future holds for them-they have been set free in their minds, hearts and spirits, and the only ones who can experience this indwelling of the Holy Spirit of God are those who choose to accept Jesus and follow Him.

The Apostle Paul addresses this in his letter to the people in Corinth by saying, that because they followers of Jesus have accepted Him as Savior-the Son of the Living God-that they have been changed, made New Creations-they have surrendered to Jesus love and His leading in their lives, they no longer look at the world from a selfish personal perspective, but they have been given a new vision-a greater vision-they no longer live for just themselves but they live for Christ and live to invite others into this relationship with Him-this family of God and brotherhood of man.

They have been made ambassadors for Jesus to the world, His bodily representatives on earth to appeal to the rest of the world that God wants to be connected to them, that they were created for that connection and without that connection they will never be all they can be.

DO YOU SEE THE REALITY OF GOD, HIS PRESENCE IN YOU?

Romans 8:38-39 ESV
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Corinthians 3:16 ESV
Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
Matthew 6:25-34 ESV
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. …
Revelation 3:20 ESV
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Psalm 139:7-10 ESV
Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.
John 14:16-17 ESV
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
