MEMORY VERSES
Nehemiah 2:18
18 I also told them about the gracious hand of my God on me and what the king had said to me. They replied, “Let us start rebuilding.” So they began this good work.

Background

Nehemiah was a Jewish captive in Babylon during the 70 years of exile, and has risen in position to being the cup bearing for the King Artaxerxes. Nehemiah learned from a friend that Jerusalem was still in ruins, after several days of fasting and prayer he approached the king with a plan to allow him to go to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls, and King Artaxerxes granted him permission to go and provided for the supplies to rebuild the walls.

From the moment Nehemiah arrived in Jerusalem he was met with opposition from some of the local leaders who did not want Jerusalem rebuilt or allowed to return to prominence, the main leaders of the opposition were, Sanballat and Tobiah. But, Nehemiah knew he had been directed and empowered by God to perform this work so through constant prayer, inviting others into his vision to share the work, and not be distracted by the opposition, the walls of Jerusalem were completed in 52 days-the opposition was overcome.

Shortly after the walls were completed, Ezra the priest read aloud the Book of the Law to the people, and the religious practices directed by the Law were reinstituted for the people of Jerusalem-the people confessed their sins, changed their ways of living inviting God back into their lives to follow His commands

What does this mean for me today?

God has plans for our lives and as we surrender more and more of lives to Him, the more of His plans we see and experience

Some of God’s plans maybe difficult for us to comprehend, may even seem impossible, but as long as we are seeking Him as we push on various doors we will see that He is the power by getting the work accomplished.

Getting close to God and knowing His plan starts with our confessions to Him, our surrender to Him and our constant communication with Him to both talk with Him and listen to Him-God is constantly trying to communicate with us and He can use any medium of communication to accomplish this including His Word, other people, other writings, music, and any other form of communication that we use

God is a God of love and a God of Holiness, He wants to work both in us to change us and through us to reach out to other people. It is difficult if not impossible to hear God unless we are living for God

Thoughts
In summary, live a life that pleases God by reading and following his word, praying to him and listening to him every day. Follow the godly advice of others. As you continue to grow in Christ, you will be filled with God’s Holy Spirit, and be daily transformed into God’s likeness. Knowing what pleases God in our daily lives will become second nature. God sees our hearts, if we earnestly seek him with all our hearts, we will find him.

ADDITIONAL BIBLE VERSES TO REVIEW

1 Timothy 2:1-4
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.
