Message –“A CHANGING VIEW-[Culture] IN AMERICA”
Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:1-16/2 Timothy 3:1-4:4/
ROMANS CHAPTER 1:18-32

Memory Verses / Galatians 6:7-10 (NLT)
7 Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. 9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.

What Does the Scripture Say?
This week has been a week of change in overall policy and direction for the government in America. In face during the term of the current administration June 26, on three separate occasions has been a date fixated on change as it applies to Gay-Homosexual-Lesbian community. For the first time in history a government has moved from tolerating the Gay Lifestyle to legalizing it. What this mean for our country and our world as a whole will be determined in the future, but what the Word of God says about it is crystal clear-and I believe the time is coming in the not too distant future that to make a public stand for Jesus and for the Word of God will have perilous consequences in our neighborhoods, our places of work and even our homes. I am not a prophet, never claimed to be and could therefore be wrong, but as a student of history I sense these things coming. I believe that making a stand for Christianity could cost us friends, employment, even family and could cost us in terms of fines or even jail time. Our greatest need at this point in our country is for Christ Followers to strengthen their personal faith, the faith of their families, and their commitment to the people in their church and be open, honest, and loving to those in their community.

The Apostle Paul addresses times such as this as he writes two separate letters to his young companion, Timothy. The Apostle points out that these times are coming, so don’t fear but be prepared.

In his first letter in the fourth section, chapter four in the bible, the Apostle writes that the Holy Spirit tells us these times are coming, times when deceptive spirits will deceive and confuse those that are not close to Jesus. Their focus will be on sensual things attacking things like marriage, foods we eat and so on-His charge to Timothy [and to us] is to stay in touch with God through His message, and don’t waste time in pointless arguments. Paul expresses the need for physical training for the body and also spiritual training for the heart, mind and spirit. Timothy is directed to stay focused on the gift that God has put in him and to use it and not get distracted by those around him that say he is too young or not experienced enough. Paul stresses for Timothy [and for us] to be a good example of Jesus to those around us.

In his second letter, sections 3 and 4, chapters 3 and 4, Paul tells Timothy that difficult times are coming, times when people no longer want to hear the truth of God but want to hear things that make them feel good, living just the way they are. Paul talks of people being boastful and proud, laughing at things of God, disobedient to parents and ungrateful, not considering anything scared but being unloving, unforgiving, betraying friends, reckless, prideful, loving pleasure rather than loving God-in short acting religious but denying-rejecting the power [God]. I THINK ALL OF US CAN SAY WE HAVE PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED OR ARE SEEING THIS PLAYED OUT IN AMERICA TODAY.

Paul challenges Timothy to be faithful to things that he has been taught about God, trusting and putting faith in Jesus to see him through these times and he reminds Timothy of this truth – 2 Timothy 3:16
“ALL SCRIPTURE IS INSPIRED BY GOD AND IS USEFUL TO TEACH US WHAT IS TRUE AND TO REMIND US OF WHAT IS WRONG IN OUR LIVES, TO CORRECT US WHEN WE ARE WRONG AND TO TEACH US TO DO RIGHT. TO PREPARE AND EQUIP HIS PEOPLE TO EVERY GOOD WORK. “

Finally Paul challenges Timothy to keep on keeping on, to preach the word whether it is received well or not, to patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage the people around him. Even though many will not listen, will not want to hear it, will not change, will reject the truth and would desire to hear only what reinforces their current lifestyle, no matter teach them anyway, fulfill what God has given you [and us] to do and let God sort it out-taking care of us regardless of what is happening to others
